The animated film Baahubali: The Eternal War has been officially selected for the Work in Progress showcase at the Annecy International Animation Festival 2026 in France. Widely regarded as the Cannes of animation, the prestigious Annecy Festival has chosen the film as a key representation of India’s evolving animation industry on the global stage.
Producer Shobu Yarlagadda shared the announcement on social media, thrilling fans worldwide. The selection will allow leading international animation critics and industry professionals to view the film’s visuals for the first time at the Annecy Festival.
A Prestigious Platform for Indian Animation
The Annecy International Animation Festival is the world’s most prestigious animation event, attracting top filmmakers, studios, and critics from across the globe. The Work in Progress showcase features select films still in production, offering early glimpses to industry insiders. Baahubali: The Eternal War‘s selection places this Indian animated epic alongside leading international productions, marking a significant milestone for Indian animation storytelling.
Epic Storyline and Production Scale
The film explores the world after Amarendra Baahubali’s passing, following him as he’s thrust into a cosmic conflict between the Devas and Asuras. Encompassing 14 magical dimensions, the storyline combines Indian mythology with expansive fantasy elements on an unprecedented scale.
Prabhas and Ramya Krishna reprise their iconic roles, providing voices for their beloved characters. MM Keeravaani, who composed the music for the original Baahubali films, returns to score this ambitious project.
Baahubali: The Eternal War is a high-end 3D animated two-part epic set in the Baahubali universe, scheduled for release in 2027. Directed by Ishan Shukla and presented by SS Rajamouli, the film is produced by Arka Mediaworks with a massive ₹120 crore budget, making it one of India’s most expensive animated productions.
